Exhibition ends!

Oh well, I guess I will get on top of this blogging thing someday. Today was worth noting since Bonnie and I took down the exhibition at the Birnam Institute and I didn't post anything pre exhibition (this is my post exhibition post I suppose). Anyway, it all went rather well. People saw and some people bought. I had 3 series of prints: one of Middle Ground black and white lino cuts with text from the booklet; one of mono colour prints inspired by stories from The Leaping Hare (a great book of lore, fables and stories about hares, by George Ewart Evans and David Thomson, recently reissued by Faber and Faber); and a series of larger multi-colour prints of osprey, great northern diver and pine marten, all inspired by sightings when volunteering at Loch of the Lowes.

I will be reissuing Middle Ground, in colour and with a more sophisticated layout, generally posher all round. And I will try and remember to post something about it when I do.

Middle Ground

I’ve just produced a 16 page hand-stitched pamphlet. It involved lots of faffing about with the pages so that I could fold a great big A1 sheet and stitch it in the old-fashioned way. The text is a piece of writing, which I called Middle Ground, because that’s what it’s about, the bits in the middle. The middle of Scotland, walking to Lawers by Loch Tay, crossing the middle altitudes between the coast and the mountain tops, and the sort of ground that covers most of Scotland where people used to live but now there are just sheep and deer. It’s illustrated with lino-cuts, mostly done for an exhibition at the Birnam Exhibition in November and December this year. I’ve also got some prints for sale at Open Studio event in Perthshire, at Bonnie Maggio’s glass studio.
